The controversial Louisville escort scandal gained some ground with reports that the Commonwealth Attorney’s office has started issuing grand jury subpoenas.

As of today, IBJ Book publisher Patricia Keiffner was the only one who has confirmed receipt of the subpoena.

Andre McGee Resigns Amidst Louisville Scandal Investigations

"We have received a subpoena at IBJ Book Publishing, and we are to appear [before the grand jury] Nov. 5th," says Keiffner.

Rather than issue one to the key figures identified in the case, the grand jury is expected to focus more on documentation and records to dig in deeper into the sex scandal that currently casts a dark cloud over the Louisville basketball programs.

The scandal was brought out in the open by escort Katina Powell in a book she wrote titled “Breaking Cardinal Rules”.

It was here that Powell laid claims that former Louisville assistant Andre McGee paid for strippers to attend parties at the dorm of players from 2010-14 which went as far as some unnamed former players having sex with the escorts.

Powell also claims that she was paid $10,000 to supply the dancers aside from other ‘side deals’.

McGee left Louisville in 2014 to be an assistant at the University of Missour-Kansas City and had been under administrative leave since Oct 2.

McGee eventually resigned from his post recently not because of the issue, but because he could not carry out his full-time duties.

The issuance of subpoenas will likely impact the NCAA’s own investigation though it is likely that they will wait and see what comes out of the ongoing criminal investigations first.

"It would not surprise me for the NCAA to reach out to (investigators) -- they can't be involved in the investigation but any public information can be shared with them," according to a source reported by The Courier-Journal.
