John Cena's "heel turn" era stunned the WWE universe when he struck Cody Rhodes by surprise. The pioneer of Attitude Adjustment viciously attacked Rhodes, signaling his allegiance with The Rock.

It's been years since fans wanted to see Cena embrace a new role in the form of a villain. For several years, he's been the baby face of the franchise.

Paul "Triple H" Levesque assured that fans will see the beautiful transition to his farewell tour.

Why Cena's Heel Turn is Occurring Now

With Triple now in charge of WWE's creative direction, things have taken a drastic turn. This is speculated to be Cena's final year in the industry, but fans won't be disappointed before he retires.

Levesque revealed that the decision was not taken lightly. He was aware that Cena's last run could have easily been a telegraphed fan-service exit, where he executes his trademark moves, winks at the audience, and says an emotional farewell. But Triple H envisioned something else.

"... that opportunity [to turn Cena heel] is the biggest thing we can do. Would have been very easy — and I'm sure John, at some point, will talk about this — would have been very easy for him to come in here and say, have us roll through all these dates, I'll do my greatest hits — everyone is going to love it," Levesque told Daily Mail.

Cena Was 'All In' on the Idea

Surprisingly, Cena was quick to embrace the idea. According to Levesque, when the possibility of a heel turn was pitched, Cena was intrigued and excited.

According to CageSideSeats, Levesque recalled that it was just a simple conversation, but in John's mind, it was a well-executed performance of a lifetime. He did not expect that John would love the idea.

Cena has never been one to slack off, and assuming a difficult new role was something that really appealed to him. Similar to an actor who's sick of playing the same kind of character, Cena viewed this as a chance to break into new creative ground.

There are no rumors currently linked to Cena's final act, but according to our previous report, WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg wanted to fight John Cena on his farewell tour. We still do not know if Goldberg's desire will be granted, but this would be one of the most interesting fights if that happens.
