Storylines To Watch

--DeGrom has never faced the Royals and though he hasn't had his best stuff this postseason, he is 3-0 with a 1.80 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 27 innings. His three wins all came on the road. Cueto owns a 4.02 ERA against the Mets in his career and has struggled as a Royal (4-7, 4.76) in the regular season and overall in the postseason (1-3, 6.93) in his career.

--The Royals' never say die attitude was on full display in Game 1 as they forced Jeurys Familia to blow his first save since July 30 when Alex Gordon took him deep to tie the game, 4-4, in the bottom of the ninth. Eric Hosmer, who made a crucial error in eighth inning to give New York the lead, hit a walk-off sacrifice fly in the 14th inning to cap the over five-hour long game. Alcides Escobar got the club off to a fast start, becoming the first person to hit an inside the park home run in the World Series since 1929. He did so on the first pitch he faced.

--Curtis Granderson hit a homer for the Mets in the loss on Tuesday. New York is revamping its lineup for Game 2 with designated hitter Kelly Johnson being benched, Michael Conforto moving from left field to DH, Yoenis Cespedes shifting from center to left and Juan Lagares moving from the bench to starting in left field.

--16 of the last 18 teams to take Game 1 in the World Series have gone on to win it.
