Johnny Manziel can’t keep himself out of trouble, so the Browns should no longer keep him in Cleveland.

The former first-round pick made headlines Friday night after dangerously passing on the shoulder at high speed on a stretch of I-80. Both he and his girlfriend -- Colleen Crowley -- were reportedly involved in a verbal altercation.

Neither were arrested. No charges were pressed.

One has to wonder how much of that had to do with the police failing to administer a breathalyzer exam for a player who spent 10 weeks in rehab during the offseason, but we digress.

Both entered damage control on Saturday.

No one’s buying this latest episode, and neither should the Browns.

Manziel -- for all his bravado and boisterous attitude -- has worn out his welcome in Cleveland. His tenure in the NFL can only last if surrounded by like-minded people.

Flashy, talkative and pedestrian results...sounds like a Rex Ryan offspring.

Admittedly, the Browns do have a QB. Tyrod Taylor proved he was worthy of a start in preseason. Despite his latest injury (left knee), he’s likely the short-term answer in Buffalo.

What the Bills don’t have, however, is a competent backup. Matt Cassel was shipped to Dallas and EJ Manuel’s confidence is lower than Tim Tebow’s completion percentage.

Someone has to hold the clipboard in Buffalo. It might as well be Manziel.

At least there his antics will be welcomed.
