John Henson isn’t exactly the first name that would come to mind when you think about the Bucks but maybe the team sees something most people don’t as far as the reserve player is concerned.

Henson was selected 14th in the 2012 NBA Draft and has done nothing more than come off the bench when the starters need to be spelled. Could it be that Henson is part of something big for the Bucks?

If so then perhaps the numbers we see right now are bound to improve at some point. Through the course of his career, Henson has played in 200 games in three seasons and has started in only 43 of them.

Last year, Henson averaged 7.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.0 blocks. He is not the typical offensive player one could imagine but his stock does build up when you talk about defense. Could this be possibly be the reason behind the four-year signing worth $44 million?

The signing does raise some eyebrows considering the Bucks have recently acquired Greg Monroe to beef up their frontline. Could the two be playing together at some point in the season?

It remains to be seen what head coach Jason Kidd has up his sleeves though Henson’s defensive ability seems to be the only sane conclusion.

The Bucks seem to be well stocked in the offensive end, led by Jabari Parker and Giannis Antetokounmpo comprising a large part of that. Then there are other players who have been known to be offensive options as well like Michael Carter-Williams and OJ Mayo.

In all the Bucks seem to need more defensive players and apparently such is the prime function of Henson.

With all due respect to Henson, there could be something more to the deal that many are not seeing. Regardless and with the deal sealed, here is hoping that Henson proves his worth starting this coming season.
