Paul Pierce is one of the new faces of the Clippers roster for the coming season but this early it seems that the ‘Truth’ is already considering retirement.

But that will only happen if the Clippers become NBA champions which comes as a mighty tall order considering the highly competitive Western Conference they find themselves in, which includes the defending champion Warriors.

Hence, if Los Angeles wins the title for the upcoming 2015-16 NBA season, that $10 million, three-year contract for the 37-year-old small forward could pretty well be futile. But of course that stance is subject to change.

Pierce knows what it takes to win an NBA title, something he, with the help of Rajon Rondo, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen, achieved back in 2008. And he is hoping that he can duplicate that feat with a pretty talent-filled roster, not to mention guided by the same coach responsible for winning that lone NBA title, Doc Rivers.

Since leaving the Celtics, Pierce has shown that he still has the nerves and talent to play the game. He did it with the Nets and most certainly proved to be a difference with the Wizards last year.

And now he tries to bring his experience to the Clippers which on paper carries perhaps one of the best talent an NBA team could ever have.

However, there are a bunch of teams standing in the way for the Clippers to snag an NBA plum.

Aside from the Warriors, the obvious favorites are the Spurs, who boast perhaps the best frontline these days with LaMarcus Aldridge, David West and Tim Duncan, the Grizzlies and the Rockets.

These four teams are expected to be among the leaders for the Western Conference this coming season, but Pierce is hoping that they can weather the odds and hopefully come out as champions.

It would be a fitting end to Pierce’s career, winning his second title and right in his hometown at that.

"It would be a dream -- to be home, to be able to carry the championship trophy down Manchester Boulevard," he said. "It would be a dream come true. I'm excited for this moment."
