Madden 16 is out today! Go ahead and pick it up, but once you put the game into your Playstation or Xbox, beware of these three overrated players once you get started.

Drew Brees, QB, Saints (Rating: 95)

This is more of a lifetime achievement award than an actual rating. Come on EA Sports, people are trying to get a realistic experience here. Brees is still one of the better QBs in the NFL, but he’s 36 years old and he threw 17 picks last season. His yardage went down from his three previous years, even though he almost matched a career-high in attempts.

Colin Kaepernick Steals The Show As Al Pacino

To have a Throwing Accuracy of 91 on medium throws, I’d like to see INT totals closer to what Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady post. Coincidentally, those are the only two QBs over Brees in this game. Meanwhile, Seahawks QB Russell Wilson is nowhere to be found in Madden’s top-5 quarterbacks despite back-to-back trips to the Super Bowl, and being the best running QB in 2014. What gives?

Jameis Winston, QB, Buccaneers (Rating: 81)

Winston may have been the No. 1 overall pick, but his college stats don’t match up with No. 2 pick Marcus Mariota’s and there’s no reason for him to be better than an 80 right off the bat. Without NFL-caliber skill players like Kelvin Benjamin and Devonta Freeman alongside him last season at Florida State, Winston’s numbers fell off a cliff from his 2013 Heisman campaign.
25 touchdowns vs. 18 picks against an ACC schedule is pretty underwhelming, especially when Mariota’s Oregon Ducks destroyed Winston’s Seminoles in the College Football Playoff. Football isn’t one-on-one, but that was a whitewash. This rating is way too high.

Johnny Manziel Can Resemble Drew Brees

Jason Witten, TE, Cowboys (Rating: 93)

What year is this? A 93 for Witten, when Bears TE Martellus Bennett can’t crack the top-5? Witten’s production cratered last year. He caught 64 passes and five touchdowns on one of the best offenses in the NFL. He was below 1,000 yards receiving for the second straight year, and third time in his last four seasons. In fact, he hasn’t even gotten to 75 catches in either of the past two years.

Sure, Witten’s a great blocker, but that wasn’t even mentioned in the blurb about his Madden rating. Here’s what it says.

“Witten does not dazzle with speed and quickness, but still features skills like 95 Catching, 92 Catch in Traffic, 88 Route Running, 85 Release, and 79 Spectacular Catch.”

Good hands sure, but this rating’s out of whack.
