Golf: Ryder Cup: Woods Admits He Needs to Improve Ryder Cup Record

Tiger Woods admitted his performance at the Ryder Cup so far has been well below par. Woods is undoubtedly the best golfer of his generation; however he's been pretty average at the Ryder Cup.

Woods has clearly shown his class and dominance with as many as 74 PGA Tour titles, which include 14 majors but he has been unable to show the same class and form in the biennial competition where the best in the U.S. is pitted against the best in Europe.

With a 13-14-2 mark which is pretty mediocre from 6 Ryder Cups, the champion golfer has only one team win to his credit.

Europe has won the Cup six times out of the last eight events which means Woods' poor form pretty much coincides with the U.S. slump.

"Well, certainly I am responsible for that because I didn't earn the points that I was put out there for," Woods said. "I believe I was out there, what, in five sessions each time and I didn't go 5-0 on our side.

"So I certainly am a part of that and that's part of being a team. I needed to go get my points for my team and I didn't do that.

"Hopefully I can do that this week, and hopefully the other guys can do the same and we can get this thing rolling."

Woods has a great opportunity to improve his record at the Medinah Country Club, which will host this week's 39th Ryder Cup.

Woods has already won 2 of his 14 majors at the Medinah Country Club with victories at the PGA Championships in 1999 and 2006.

About his success at the Medinah Club Woods said: "I've always loved coming here. I enjoy playing in Chicago and for some reason, I've just had a lot of success here. I don't know what it is but I seem to be very, very comfortable here."

There are differing theories floating around about Woods' mediocre performance at the Ryder Cup events. Graeme McDowell, a US Open winner said: "I kind of liken it to playing premiership football, the biggest teams, the Manchester Uniteds, the Liverpools, the Chelseas, the Arsenals. Any lesser team that comes to play these guys, they have a tendency to raise their game because it's a huge game for an underdog to play a Tiger Woods.

"They get up for it. They are not expected to win."
