Robert Griffin III, the controversial quarterback of the Redskins, has today's spotlight squarely on him after proclaiming he is the best quarterback in the NFL.

"I know I'm the best quarterback on this team. I feel like I'm the best quarterback in the league and I have to go out and show that," Griffin told The Washington Post.

Some Scouts & Execs Are Burying RG3 For Good

"Any athlete at any level, if they concede to someone else, they're not a top competitor, they're not trying to be the best that they can be. There's guys in this league that have done way more than me. But, I still view myself as the best because that's what I work toward every single day."

After his incredible Rookie of the Year season in 2012 that statement might have been viewed as a prophecy. Following injury and controversy-plagued campaigns in the last two years though, it's just delusional.

Washington Redskins Fantasy Preview

Over the past two seasons Griffin has thrown 20 touchdowns and 18 interceptions, while missing 12 of a possible 32 games. He has blown out his knee twice in the NFL, been benched in favor of the superb combination of Kirk Cousins and Colt McCoy, and gone 5-15 in his last 20 starts. Even worse, his rushing attempts, yards per game, and yards per carry have all dipped in every season he's been in the NFL. While injuries are probably to blame for that, he came into the league with injury red flags that have come to fruition.

Making matters worse, he is compared to Andrew Luck, the only player taken ahead of him in 2012. Since entering the NFL, Luck has not missed a game, never thrown fewer than 23 touchdowns in a season (and hit 40 last season), and rushed for four more touchdowns than Griffin.
