Tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET the Browns will start their preseason slate against the Redskins in a game that can be live streamed free by clicking this link. Browns fans can listen to the game on WNKR 850, while Redskins fans may do likewise on ESPN 980.
This preseason matchup will feature two much-maligned quarterbacks on long-suffering teams. One, Johnny Manziel of the Browns, is trying his hardest to earn the starting job with the deck stacked against him. The other, Robert Griffin III of the Redskins, is going to do his best not to lose the job many feels he doesn't deserve.
Manziel is firmly behind veteran Josh McCown at this point in time according to head coach Mike Pettine. Even after a scrimmage in which Manziel threw two touchdown passes-and outplayed McCown, who was 1-10 as a starter for the Buccaneers-Pettine stood firm on McCown as his guy for the time being.
Griffin's 2014 was almost as bad as Manziel's. He got hurt, and was benched in the same season; he also threw more interceptions (6) than touchdowns (4), and failed to score a single rushing touchdown. This is two seasons removed from a rookie campaign in which he threw 20 touchdowns vs. five picks, and rushed for 815 yards and seven scores.
Josh McCown's Status Isn't Safe
Behind Griffin, Kirk Cousins and Colt McCoy are back to apply pressure. McCoy was actually the most successful of the group in 2015, throwing for four touchdowns and three interceptions. 'Skins fans should expect to see more of Cousins and McCoy than Griffin in Week 1.
