Mackensie Alexander is receiving his education from Clemson University, but the cornerback clearly graduated from the Richard Sherman school of hard knocks.
In only his second-ever meeting with the press—the sophomore refused to talk to reporters during his redshirt freshman year—Alexander separated himself from the rest of the country. Every other college corner is merely living in his shadow.
Title Odds For Top 10 Teams In The Country
"In my opinion? It's not even close," Alexander said, per The Post and Courier (S.C.). "I think every guy that talks about Mackensie knows I'm the best corner in college ball. It's not even close. It's not even close."
Bold statement from a man who decided to refer to himself in the third person. When asked to elaborate his reasoning, he added: "Look at my body of work. The things I've done. It's not even close. My numbers, and you look at everybody else's numbers, I mean, I don't care who they are and what league they play in, that doesn't matter.
"If you can play, you can play, hands down."

In fairness to Alexander, his gaudy numbers aren't visible to the naked eye. After all, finishing 2014 with zero interceptions will lead many to question his suggestion to "look at his body of work."
The real analysis can be found by sports information director Tim Bourret, per The Post and Courier.
In breaking down Alexander's tape, Bourret found:
-
Opponents threw 374 passes on Alexander's team-leading 766 snaps. Only 57 were directed at Alexander's man (or 15.2 percent of attempts).
-
Those 57 passes toward Alexander resulted in 20 completions for 280 yards and two touchdowns. That's a completion percentage of 35.1 percent.
There is merit to Alexander's words, but he must duplicate his success in 2015 to live upto his self-perpetuated hype.
