Martin St. Louis announced his retirement from the National Hockey League on Thursday, putting an end to a Hall of Fame-worthy career that spanned over 16 years.

3 Biggest NHL Trades This Offseason

After going undrafted, the 5-foot-8 winger with a heart that was way bigger than his frame signed with the Calgary Flames and played with them from 1998-2000.

He spent most of his career in Tampa Bay as a member of the Lightning, where he carved out the biggest moments of his NHL journey from 2000-2014 before being traded to the New York Rangers during the 2014 campaign. He finished up his career with the Blueshirts this past season.

3 Best Free Agents Left On The Market

St. Louis, 40, has 391 goals, 642 assists and 1,033 points in 1,134 career games and those accolades coupled with his leadership on and off the ice make him a sure-fire Hall of Famer.

Here are three of the biggest moments in the wingers career.

Four Score

On January 18, 2014, St. Louis lit the lamp four times against the San Jose Sharks in a single game. St. Louis became just the second player in Lightning franchise history to notch four tallies in one contest.

Scoring For Mom

Following his trade to the Rangers last spring, St. Louis' mother, France, passed away, but he opted to suit up and continue to play New York's second round Stanley Cup playoff series against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

With the club trailing 3-2 in the series, St. Louis scored an emotional goal on Mother's Day as the Blueshirts went on to beat the Penguins, 3-2, and even the series up at three games apiece. New York would go on to complete the rally from 3-1 down in the series to oust Pittsburgh in seven games and it went all the way to its first Stanley Cup Final since the 1993-94 campaign.

Stanley Cup Champion

After scoring 38 goals and leading the NHL with 56 assists, 94 points, a plus-35 rating and eight short-handed goals, St. Louis won his first and only Stanley Cup as a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning. The winger also won the Hart Trophy that season. The Bolts ousted the Calgary Flames in seven games after overcoming a 3-2 series hole. St. Louis notched the double overtime game-winner in Game 6 to keep his team alive. St. Louis led the league with 15 assists that spring and had nine goals for 24 points.
