On Wednesday, Real Madrid rejected a permanent transfer for Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez, showing zero interest in keeping the forward beyond this summer (via Metro). Not even his late season contributions were enough to salvage a future at the Santiago Bernabeu.
No Future for Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez at Real Madrid
Per the report, Tottenham were the favorites to sign Hernandez for a fee in the neighborhood of £7.5 million.
The plot thickened on Friday.
According to broadcaster Top Calcio 24 (via Daily Mail), Inter Milan's brass have opened talks with Hernandez and are weighing up a bid for his signature. The club, however, will likely face competition from Southampton, Liverpool, West Ham, Everton and Stoke City.
Hernandez made just six starts for Madrid this campaign, but will have one final opportunity to showcase his talents to potential suitors.
Suffering with injury over the past several months, Karim Benzema—Hernandez's main competition—has been ruled out of Saturday's season finale against Getafe. Club medical staff decided to shut the French international down for the remainder of the season.
An obvious choice given Los Blancos have nothing to play for.
Benzema made a brief return to action in the second leg of the Champions League semifinals against Juventus and again against Espanyol the following week. It proved to be too much for Madrid's No. 9, for that is where the 27-year-old reaggravated a hamstring injury.
Hernandez will prove to be the beneficiary. With one final opportunity, look for him to build on his six goals and four assists at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday.
A slew of clubs will be watching.
