Paula Abdul is judging televised competitions again. According to reports, Abdul has signed on to guest judge the So You Think You Can Dance, after leaving American Idol following the 2009 season.
While it may seem odd to have a pop singer on the panel of judges who are supposed to be determining the best dancers, Abdul has a lesser-known life before rocking microphones. She got her start in show business as a "Laker girl," otherwise known as a cheerleader for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Abdul also spent time as a choreographer for pop megastar Janet Jackson, the sister of the deceased "King of Pop" Michael Jackson.
Upon announcing her departure from American Idol rumors flew that Abdul would be joining So You Think You Can Dance. It took several years for the connection to be made, but Abdul is certainly on board. Executive producer and fellow judge Nigel Lythgoe confirmed the addition of Adbul saying, "It's the girl I've waited ten seasons for."
Before signing on with the dance competition juggernaut Abdul had her own show, Live to Dance, and served as a guest judge on Dancing With the Stars. She also judged on X Factor in 2012, but was not asked to return along with Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger and Steve Jones.
A source near the situation said, "They expected Paula to be the goofy girl, and Nicole to be the pretty one. But Paula was so bad that it made none of it work." After getting dumped from the show Abdul reportedly screamed at executives and said she felt "used" by Simon Cowell, former Idol mate and the show's creator.
She released a statement shortly after thought that said, "Yes, it's true; I won't be returning to 'The X Factor' next season. I've learned through my longevity in this industry that business decisions oftentimes override personal considerations. Simon is, and will remain, a dear friend."
