Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook is used to scoring a lot of points on the basketball court. On Friday, he scored a lot of points in the court of public opinion.
Yardbarker.com reported that Westbrook helped a Thunder fan propose to his girlfriend - the fan's girlfriend, not Westbrook's - via the use of Twitter (what else?).
And the girlfriend said yes.
The report said that the fan contacted Westbrook through his Facebook page and asked for help with the proposal.
So Westbrook reached Rachel Haycraft on her Twitter account and relayed the following message:
"@rachelhaycraft, @chuuuuck1 loves u, he wants to know if u would spend the rest of ur life watching thunder games w/ him. #marryhim #Whynot"
According to his Twitter identification, @chuuuuck1 is a man named Charlie Bright.
Not only did Haycraft retweet Westbrook's message, she also responded: "@russwest44 @Chuuuuck1 I said yes!" and posted a picture with her showing off the engagement ring Bright apparently had given her.
Westbrook was almost as elated as the happy couple.
"She said yes! RT @russwest44 @Chuuuuck1 I said yes!" Westbrook tweeted back.
It's been a pretty good week for the 24-year-old NBA star. On yet another social media entity, Vine, Westbrook posted a video to announce he was off crutches after a knee injury in the first round of the NBA playoffs against the Houston Rockets and subsequent surgery ended his 2012-13 season.
The video shows Westbrook walking out of his house with a crutch under his right shoulder, shaking his head. The next shot shows him bending the crutch over his knee and then throwing it in his pool.
While Oklahoma City Thunder fans must've cheered that post, it was Yardbarker who was cheering Westbrook for his contributions to the two particular fans, Haycraft and Bright.
"Does it get any more fan friendly than that? Amazing move by a genuinely good guy," it said.
