New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez is embroiled in a murder investigation, and according to reports, a warrant has been issued by Massachusetts police on charges of obstruction of justice.
Hernandez allegedly destroyed his home surveillance system as well as his cell phone before meeting with police about the case. An unidentified law enforcement source said police examined Hernandez' home again after learning his security system had been destroyed, and determined the damage was intentional.
Police are also questioning Hernandez' decision to have his home professionally cleaned on Monday knowing full well the scale of the investigation involving him.
Evidence is piling up against the star tight end; surveillance footage showed Hernandez with Odin Lloyd, the victim and boyfriend of Hernandez' girlfriend's sister, and two other men the night Lloyd's body was discovered.
Lloyd was found dead of a single gunshot to the head, execution style.
Hernandez' lawyer, Michael Fee has released a statement that reads:
"It has been widely reported in the media that the state police have searched the home of our client, Aaron Hernandez, as part of an ongoing investigation. Out of respect for that process, neither we nor Aaron will have any comment about the substance of that investigation until it has come to a conclusion."
Another man, Alexander S. Bradley, has come public with allegations that Hernandez shot him in the face in Miami after a nightclub trip in February, leaving him without the use of one eye. According to ESPN, there is a police report documenting a shooting involving a man named Bradley, but the case was categorized as "inactive" thanks to a lack of cooperation from "Bradley."
Last season Hernandez was something of a disappointment due to various injuries limiting him to 10 games. In his time on the field Hernandez hauled in 51 passes for 483 yards and five touchdowns.
