The Baltimore Orioles (41-31) will take on the Detroit Tigers (39-30) in the matinee rubber match of a three-game series in which each team has scored five runs in a victory. The game is set to start at 1:08 p.m. and can be live streamed here. Orioles fans trying to listen to the game can do so by tuning in to 1090 WBAL, while Tigers fans can do the same on 97.1 The Ticket.
Adam Jones landed the biggest blow of the game last night when he cranked a three-run home run off of Tigers ace Justin Verlander in the fifth inning, giving Baltimore a 5-1 lead that proved to be the final score. Today, Rick Porcello (4-3, 4.37 ERA) will try to pitch more carefully to Baltimore's powerful center fielder.
Jones is proving this season that last year's vault into elite-outfielder territory was no fluke. He's currently sporting a .301 batting average with 15 home runs and 51 RBI, with the bonus of nine stolen bases.
Porcello will also have to contend with Chris Davis, having a breakout year of his own. His batting average this season, .332, is finally up to par with the prodigious power many in baseball knew he possessed.
The Tigers have some ferocious bats of their own, though, and they will be trying to put a dent in the ERA and WHIP of Baltimore's Chris Tillman (7-2, 3.61 ERA). Tillman had underwhelmed in his previous stints in the majors, and his grip on a roster spot was tenuous entering 2013.
"I said it in the spring," manager Buck Showalter said. "Chris came in full aware that he was out of options. But he pitched like a guy who had three and didn't want to go to (Triple-A) Norfolk. And that shows a lot of maturity, because he wanted to be a guy for us this year -- and he has been so far."
