Magna Carta Holy Grail: Jay-Z Announces Album During NBA Finals [VIDEO], Record Will Go Platinum Before Release

Hip-hop stars Kanye West and J. Cole own the rap world at the moment with their news albums Yeezus and Born Sinner coming out, but Jay-Z will soon be upstaging them.

A commercial aired during the NBA Finals announcing that Jay-Z's latest album, Magna Carta Holy Grail will drop on July 4th. The impending album release has been kept completely under wraps, and the timing has generated serious buzz.

Samsung has reached an agreement with Jay-Z to purchase a million copies of Magna Carta Holy Grail, and will distribute them to owners of Samsung Galaxy S III, Galaxy S 4, and Galaxy Note II cell phones prior to the July 4th release date. If these sales are counted, the album will have gone platinum before it's actually released.

The video shows Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, rapping. In it he describes the concept of his newest record. "It's this duality of how do you navigate your way through this whole this whole thing... through success, through failures, through all of this, and remain yourself." He also said, "The Internet is like the Wild West. We need to write the new rules."

Jay-Z's last solo album, The Blueprint 3, was released in 2009. Since then, he has teamed up with protégé Kanye West on Watch the Throne, which was a collaboration album spawning mega hits like N****s in Paris, Otis, and No Church in the Wild.

The rapper-turned-business mogul has been extremely busy this year. He has given up his small stake as part-owner of the Brooklyn Nets in order to focus on becoming a high-powered sports agent.

In the past few months, Jay-Z and his Roc Nation Sports Agency have inked several high-profile clients, including New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano, New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz, New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith, and Chicago Sky star Skylar Diggins.
