Milton Bradley Jail Time: Ex-Major Leaguer Convicted of Physically Attacking and Threatening His Estranged Wife

Former Major League Baseball player Milton Bradley has been convicted on nine counts of physically attacking and threatening his estranged wife, the Los Angeles Times reported.

A jury in Los Angeles found Bradley, 35, guilty of four counts of spousal abuse, two counts of criminal threats, one count of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of brandishing a deadly weapon and one count of vandalism, a Los Angeles city attorney's spokesman said.

According to the Times, the charges against the 12-year baseball journeyman stemmed from Los Angeles Police Department investigations of five incidents over a two-year period, prosecutors said. The incidents included physical assaults and threats against his wife at their San Fernando Valley home.

''Domestic violence will not be tolerated, regardless of perceived celebrity or notoriety, and violators will be held fully accountable for their actions,'' City Attorney Carmen Trutanich said in a statement. "The city attorney's office remains ready to assist all people victimized by spousal abuse."

Bradley was taken into custody immediately, with bail set at $250,000. He faces up to 7-1/2 years in jail Sentencing is scheduled for July 2.

Bradley has been married to his wife for five years, and the couple has two children together. They are currently separated, and Bradley's wife has filed a restraining order against him, the Times reported.

One incident in November of 2012 involved Bradley pushing his wife against a wall and choking her after she asked that he refrain from smoking marijuana in front of their kids and requested that his friends leave their home, police and prosecutors said, according to the Times.

Another 2011 incident accused Bradley of waving a baseball bat above his head, threatening his wife with it.

His playing career was marred by several outbursts of anger. In 2005, the Los Angeles Dodgers traded him to the Oakland Athletics after he threw a water bottle at fans and having an altercation with a reporter in the clubhouse.
