Lose a series; gain a date with a beauty queen.

It was a busy week for Memphis Grizzlies guard Quincy Pondexter. Just days after Pondexter and the Grizzlies succumbed to a four-game sweep at the hands of the San Antonio Spurs, Pondexter discovered a new way of asking someone on a date, several media outlets reported.

Pondexter found Miss Tennessee, Chandler Lawson, on Twitter, and made his move.

He started by asking a seemingly innocuous question, "Who won Miss Tennessee this year?"

The three-year NBA veteran out of the University of Washington then clarified the reason behind his previous tweet.

"Now that season is over I need 2 find a gf "@ChrisVernonShow: Offseason... RT @QuincyPondexter Who won Miss Tennessee this year?" Pondexter tweeted.

Three hours later, he received the response he was seeking.

"@QuincyPondexter hi! Heard you were looking for me? #gogrizz," Lawson tweeted back.

Pondexter went on to ask whether Lawson was single - she was - and proceeded to ask her out. She agreed.

Chris Vernon, a radio talk show host for an ESPN affiliate in Memphis, Tenn., then tweeted the couple, offering them the opportunity to come on in studio to meet face-to-face. Vernon would turn the segment into a "dating show."

Pondexter had career highs of 6.4 points and 2.2 rebounds in just more than 21 minutes per game in 59 games for the Grizzlies this season. But he gained notoriety during the Grizzlies' run through the NBA playoffs.

Pondexter averaged 8.9 points per game in 15 Memphis playoff games, including a 15.3-point average in the four-game series against the Spurs.

Whether Lawson actually is interested in Pondexter or is simply using the now-public exchange as a publicity stunt, she has now given hope to single men who are looking for a creative way to get a woman's attention or ask for a date.
