Brazilian legend Cristiano Ronaldo is known as one of the greatest goal scorers in the history of the game, and his opinions about the game rarely go unnoticed. That is why he made headlines recently over his choices for his all-time dream team of players. The players he put into his starting 11 are not bad choices by any means, but one of the names left off his team is noteworthy.

CR7's Hometown Erects Flattering Statue Of Him

According to the Daily Mail, Ronaldo picked a wide array of players on his dream team, including choosing three Argentines and only two Brazilians. He chose a 3-4-3 diamond formation, and included many legends of the game such as Pele, Cafu, Franz Beckenbauer, Diego Maradona, Zinedine Zidane, and Johan Cruyff.

Ronaldo also chose two current superstars as part of his team in Spanish midfielder Xavi and Argentinian forward Lionel Messi.

Cristiano Ronaldo Named Sports Personality Of The Year

If you read over the team, there is one stark omission: Ronaldo's namesake, Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo. Now, CR7 is an undeniably great player, but on an all-time dream team, there is hardly any shame in being left off the roster.

However, the reason his omission is so interesting is because of the fact that Ronaldo included two of CR7's contemporary players, including Messi, whom Cristiano Ronaldo has been battling back-and-forth for the title of world's best player for nearly a decade now.

It is fair to wonder if Ronaldo may have been trying to please everyone with his roster, as he could have easily chosen more Brazilian players or put himself into the squad. Still, any way you slice it, the inclusion of Messi will surely be painted as a slight toward Cristiano Ronaldo, despite the fact that he is the favorite to win the Ballon d'Or yet again.
