Tonight at 7 p.m. ET, the Detroit Red Wings (19-8-9, 47 points) and Boston Bruins (18-15-3, 39 points) face-off for the third of five meetings this season live from the TD Garden in Boston. The game can be live streamed for free here. Detroit fans can hear all of the action on 97.1 The Ticket while Boston fans can do the same on WBZ 1030.
Boston opens up a three-game home stand and has won two of its last three matches while Detroit has won two games in a row. The Bruins sit three points out of the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference while the Red Wings own second place in the Atlantic Division.
These teams have traded victories through their first two meetings with Detroit picking up a 2-1 win on Oct. 9 and Boston answering with a 3-2 shootout triumph on Oct. 15.
The Bruins are coming off of a 6-2 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday and will be without forwards Patrice Bergeron and Milan Lucic due to undisclosed injuries.
"I think it's a good test for us and we have to get back to playing as a team, and if you lose a couple individuals, no matter how skilled they are, you still have to win as a team," Reilly Smith said via NHL.com. "So that's definitely the focus tonight."
Bergeron is the team-leader with 27 points off of seven goals and 20 assists, so he is a big loss tonight.
Carl Soderberg is second on the team with 23 points off of six markers and 17 helpers while Brad Marchand has found the back of the net 10 times and added 11 assists for 21 points.
The Red Wings are coming off of a 3-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Saturday in a shootout, but the team won't be taking an injury-riddled Bruins team lightly as it searches for its third straight win.
"I don't think that changes a whole bunch with us," coach Mike Babcock told NHL.com. "We understand they're not happy because they didn't play as good as they wanted to last game. It didn't go as good. Any team that gets beat, they want to respond, no different than if we lost. So we understand where we're at and who we're playing."
Henrik Zetterberg has paced the Red Wings with 32 points off of eight goals and 24 assists while Pavel Datsyuk has 13 markers and 13 helpers for 26 points and Tomas Tatar has lit the lamp 14 times while adding 10 assists for 24 points.
Gustav Nyquist owns a team-best 15 goals and ranks fourth on the team with 23 points.
In net, Detroit turns to Jimmy Howard and he is 14-5-7 while ranking fifth in the NHL with a 2.05 goals-against average and adding a .922 save percentage.
Boston will counter with Tuukka Rask and he is 14-10-3 with a 2.59 GAA and a .910 save percentage.
It's an Original Six matchup when the puck drops on the Red Wings and Bruins live tonight from the TD Garden in Boston.
