Michigan officials have taken their sales pitch on the road, flying to the Bay Area over this holiday weekend to meet with Jim Harbaugh in person. The Wolverines had previously extended the 49ers head coach a mammoth six-year, $48 million offer to head the program.
Jim Harbaugh Once Smeared Blood on his Face 'Like War Paint'
Harbaugh's Niners (7-8) close out their season tomorrow against the Arizona Cardinals (11-4). Harbaugh has been on the rocks with the team's upper management for months now, and a split has long been considered all-but-inevitable.
Michigan reps are traveling to the West Coast "with the intention of closing the deal," according to Yahoo! Sports.
Should the 49ers relieve Harbaugh of his duties, the Oakland Raiders are supposed to be Michigan's direct competition for the coach's services.

Michigan Considering Other NFL Coaches Besides Harbaugh?
Both the Raiders and Wolverines would make sense for Harbaugh as a new destination. Sources close to the coach say that he loves coaching on the NFL level and is intent on winning the Super Bowl that's alluded him in San Fran despite three straight NFC Championship Game appearances. However, Harbaugh also played quarterback at Michigan from 1983-86 under legendary coach Bo Schembechler.
