The escalating war of words between world-class golfers Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia hit its nadir when Garcia made references to fried chicken when discussing his relationship with Woods. Since his unfortunate remarks, Garcia has apologized twice publicly, claiming he had trouble sleeping last night and nearly withdrew from an upcoming European Tour event.

I want to apologize to Tiger and anybody that I could have offended," Garcia said. "I feel sick about it. I'm truly, truly sorry. And I hope we can kind of settle things down and hopefully move on."

The comment that landed Garcia in boiling hot water was a joking response to whether he and Woods would get together to settle their differences. Garcia said, "We'll have him 'round every night. We will serve fried chicken."

In his first apology, which was delivered Tuesday night, Garcia said "I answered a question that was clearly made towards me as a joke with a silly remark, but in no way was the comment meant in a racist manner." In response tweet, Woods said, "The comment that was made wasn't silly. It was wrong, hurtful and clearly inappropriate."

The entire issue began somewhat innocuously, when Garcia was angered by Woods drawing a club from his bag while Garcia prepared to shoot. The act of Woods taking out a club sparked a loud reaction from the gallery, thus distracting Garcia who complained publicly. Since the incident, Woods and Garcia have traded barbs through the media. With this "fried chicken" comment looming over the dispute now, both golfers will likely keep their mouths closed for the time being.

Woods appears to be doing his part to bury the issue, sending out another tweet that read: "I'm confident that there is real regret that the remark was made. "The Players ended nearly two weeks ago and it's long past time to move on and talk about golf."
