Just a day after reports surfaced that the University of Michigan was targeting Dan Mullen as a "viable" candidate for their head coaching vacancy, the Mississippi State coach denied Tuesday that he's even been contacted by the school, let alone pondering a job offer.
Michigan Targeting Dan Mullen, Jim Mora?
Speaking with reporters in anticipation of the Bulldogs' Orange Bowl appearance later this month, Mullen dished candidly on the Michigan job and a host of other topics.
Mullen confirmed the Clarion Ledger's report that the only person to whom he's discussed his job status for 2015 is MSU athletic director Scott Stricklin. All signs point to the Bulldogs retaining Mullen's services, though that'll come with a raise and contract extension in tow.
If Mullen does elect to stay in Starksville, he'll be the second high profile candidate to be checked off Michigan's list -- LSU head coach Les Miles also said he's not interested in the Wolverines gig on Monday.

In addition to the Michigan rumors, Mullen was also asked about Geoff Collins, his defensive coordinator who left the Bulldogs for the Florida Gators' DC position.
Mullen says Florida coach Jim McElwain called yesterday to ask about speaking with defensive coordinator Geoff Collins.

Mullen calls Geoff Collins going from Mississippi State to Florida "A lateral move." — Brandon Walker (@BWonStateBeat) December 16, 2014
Mullen calling that a "lateral move" sounds like the words of someone who expects to be battling in the SEC for a long time.
