Prior to Notre Dame's regular season finale against USC, Brian Kelly told the media that he believed junior quarterback Everett Golson could be one of the best quarterbacks in the country. Unfortunately, Golson rewarded his coach's faith in him with such an ugly performance that he was benched mid-game in favor of freshman Matt Zaire. The Trojans crushed the Irish, 49-14.

Brian Kelly to Oakland Raiders?

Since that game Kelly has refused to commit to a starter for the team's Music City Bowl appearance versus LSU.

Now we have our answer. Kelly told reporters on Monday that he plans to play both Golson and Zaire. "I think both of them have different traits and we need to find a way to win the game and I think both of them can help us win," said Kelly, per ESPN.com. He declined to specify which of the two would be starting.

Golson led the Irish to the BCS National Championship Game in January 2013, but his Notre Dame career has been rocky ever since. He missed the entire 2013 season due to academic troubles. He started every regular season game in 2014, but committed a ghastly 22 turnovers on the season.

Every one of those turnovers came in the team's final nine games, a span in which the team tailspun into a 4-5 record.

Zaire was 9-20 for 170 yards in his one relief appearance of Golson.
