To the delight of the University of Michigan student body, athletic director Dave Brandon's resignation became official Friday, according to ESPN.com. Brandon submitted his resignation earlier this week after a string of mishaps that resulted in hordes of criticism.

After accepting Brandon's resignation, university president Mark Schlissel addressed the matter and vowed to begin working toward finding a replacement.

"I think we need the very best person possible to do this job," Schlissel said. "Certainly, people that have a connection to Michigan know many things about the university. I can tell you, though, despite the fact that I've only been here for about 110 days, I feel like a Michigan man already."

Schlissel has appointed former Michigan football playerJim Hackett as interim athletic director until he finds a permanent replacement for Brandon.

Brandon became the target of hostile students after raising the price of student tickets to football games. He was also accused of alienating former players.
