After starting 1-5, the Washington Redskins are considering another switch at quarterback.

According to NBC Sports, talk around Washington is that benching quarterback Kirk Cousins makes sense right now and Colt McCoy should be given a shot in Washington.

“Brian Mitchell, who played in Washington for 10 seasons and is now a commentator, said on Comcast SportsNet’s post-game show that benching Cousins would make a lot of sense right now.

“I think we have to hold Kirk to the same standard we held Robert to. And if Kirk Cousins can’t get the job done, then there’s another quarterback sitting there,” Mitchell said, via Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post. “Colt McCoy is the next guy out there. I don’t see what the problem would be.”

The report goes on to say that Washington coach Jay Gruden will likely not consider McCoy at quarterback any time soon, but Cousins’ subpar play will likely make it easy for Robert Griffin III to take his position back when he returns from injury.

Cousins’ has thrown eight interceptions on this young season and his three-interception fourth quarter on Sunday ended any chance the Redskins had of beating the Cardinals. Washington has lost four straight games after beating the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Griffin is expected to return this season from a dislocated ankle, but his status as the Redskin quarterback is up in the air.
