The Indiana Pacers and coach Frank Vogel have agreed on a multi-year contract extension that will keep the coach in Indiana for the foreseeable future.

Vogel is entering his fourth full season with the Pacers and boasts a record of 167-100 since taking over as the team’s interim coach in January 2011. The Pacers president of basketball operations Larry Bird said it was the right time to make the move and Vogel deserves the extension.

"We're very happy to extend Frank's contract," Bird said in a statement Wednesday. "I believe he has done a great job and I look forward to continuing our relationship and working together to achieve all of our goals.”

Vogel and the Pacers are expected to have a down 2014-15 after losing Paul George to a gruesome broken leg and Lance Stephenson to the Charlotte Hornets via free agency. The Pacers finished as the Eastern Conference’s top seed last season, but were eliminated by the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference finals.

The Pacers open up the regular season at home agaisnt the Philadelphia 76ers on October 29.
