The Boston Celtics have reopened potential Rajon Rondo trade talks and the Sacramento Kings have emerged as a prime candidate for the All-Star point guard.

James Harden, Dwight Howard Alienate Teammates?

Mixed reports are emerging on Rondo’s status with the Celtics, but at least one source believes that the Sacramento Kings are closing in on the 28-year-old.

Despite the aggressive reports to the contrary, the Celtics don't look to be actively shopping Rondo. A source from inside the Celtics organization believes that the team will look to hold onto the four-time All-Star for as long as they can.

Andrew Wiggins Talks Minnesota Trade

“I don’t get the sense that Boston ‘wants’ to trade Rondo, but there is the specter of him walking for nothing and that has to be accounted for.
If the Celtics cannot get a sense of commitment from Rondo beyond this year, they have to trade him or risk losing him for nothing in return.”

Rondo is expected to command a max contract as a member of the 2015 free agency class. Rondo could find himself being the top player available seeing how Kevin Love is a Cleveland Cavalier and LaMarcus Aldridge has stated he would love to stay in Portland.

The Celtics drafted Marcus Smart in the 2014 NBA draft and could go many directions with the way they approach their rebuild. With the addition of Smart, the Celtics have made it possible to trade Rondo for top dollar while still having a point guard they see as the future of the franchise.
