Monroe has made it perfectly clear that he does not want to play with the Pistons anymore, but he was unwilling to sign a restricted free agent offer sheet with another team at the risk of the Pistons matching the offer. Monroe will play for the Pistons this coming season and be an unrestricted free agent next summer.

Monroe’s deal with the Pistons is worth $5.5 million this coming season and then he will be free to sign with the team of his choosing. Monroe’s move has also prompted fellow restricted free agent Eric Bledsoe to consider signing his offer sheet with the Phoenix Suns

Monroe has been the subject of rumored trade talks as the Pistons and Pacers have had discussions involving Roy Hibbert. Nothing official has come of the rumored talks, but a source close to the situation believes the two sides have discussed a swap of the two big men.
Monroe has averaged 14 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists for his career and posted 15.2 points, 9.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists while playing in 82 games for the first time in his career last season.
