In Paul Finebaum’s new book he claims that the Texas Longhorns were preparing to offer Alabama coach Nick Saban a monster contract worth $100 million.
The SEC Network’s Finebaum and Gene Wojciechowski wrote the book "My Conference Can Beat Your Conference," and in it they claim that Texas was ready to offer Saban an incredible amount of money to lead the Longhorns back to the glory days.
"Texas was dead serious about trying to money-whip Saban. Depending on who you talk to -- Bama big hitters or Texas big hitters -- the Longhorns were prepared to give Saban somewhere between a $12 million and $15 million signing bonus and a salary package worth $100 million [plus performance bonuses].”
The Crimson Tide signed Saban to a new seven-year deal that pays him $6.5 million a year and a total of about $55 million after bonuses. Saban had said in the past that he never considered the Texas job and leaving Alabama wasn't something he wanted to do at this point in his career.
After legendary coach Mack Brown stepped down, Texas went on to sign Louisville coach Charlie Strong to a five-year deal that is worth $5 million a season. The Longhorns also paid another $4.375 million to aid in Strong’s buyout from Louisville.
When asked about the book’s claim at the SEC Media Days Saban responded:
“I didn’t have any conversations with them and nobody offered me anything.”
Nick Saban says he "wasn't offered anything by Texas" and said he didn't have any conversations with Texas "so I didn't have much interest."

So Texas would have given Nick Saban $100m. Why? You could buy a pretty good team with that — Ollie Connolly (@OllieUKEZ) July 17, 2014
