Auburn quarterback Nick Marshall was arrested possession of a small amount of marijuana Friday and has been barred from attending the SEC media days as part of his punishment. Auburn coach Gus Malzahn announced that Marshall will be subject to more punishment before the season begins.

Malzahn was mum on what potential punishments could be from the the university, but was clear that Marshall would have to pay the price for his mistakes no matter how great a person he was previously.

"Up until last Friday, Nick has been a model student, a model teammate and a model citizen," Malzahn said Monday at media days. "But he made a mistake, and he's going to have to suffer the consequences for that mistake. I'm not saying what that consequence is right now, but it will be addressed."

Malzahn said he was comfortable starting backup quarterback Jeremy Johnson if Auburn decides to suspend Marshall and believes that the Tigers’ seniors will righten the ship.

"We have a very strong group of seniors that understand the expectations.”

Marshall is the second Tiger to be arrested for marijuana possession, as teammate Jonathon Mincy was arrested a few weeks prior. Malzahn expressed his displeasure for the both incidents, but believes the team hasn't lost sight of the goals at hand.

"We're going to deal with those mistakes. I feel very good about the big picture, where we're at with the program and I know our players and our coaches feel the same way.”

Marshall burst onto the scene his junior year as he threw for 1,976 yards, rushed for 1,068 yards and scored 26 combined touchdowns all while leading the Tigers to a berth in the BCS National Championship Game.
