Now that LeBron James is a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers, the question is who will join him for the journey. Minnesota Timberwolves’ Kevin Love is the name that has come up for the Cavaliers and Cleveland believes they can get him without giving up 2014 first overall pick Andrew Wiggins.
ESPN’s Marc Stein reports that Love is “intrigued” by the possibility of playing with LeBron and company, but the power lies with the Cavaliers front office.
The Cavaliers first offer to the Timberwolves for Love was Dion Waiters, Anthony Bennett, and a first-round pick which was declined. Minnesota is rumored to be asking for Wiggins in any potential deal that includes Love, but with Love being a free agent in 2015, Minnesota is losing leverage by the day.
The Cavaliers are likely in love with the idea of having Wiggins learn from James in his first few seasons in the NBA, but if they want to add Love and become the heavy favorite in the Eastern Conference they might have to bite the bullet. Cavaliers coach David Blatt has maintained that the team will not be trading Wiggins in any potential deal.
The Cavaliers are already one of the leagues best teams with the addition of LeBron, but adding Love would propel them into a different class that rivals, and may even surpass, the “Big 3” that use to play in Miami.
