The World Cup has taken off in America for more than just the soccer and it was bound to produce some interesting news. After a World Cup cameraman snapped a picture of her in the crowd, 17-year-old Axelle Despiegelaere received an offer to model for L’Oreal.

Despiegelaere was cast in the L'Oreal Professionnel Belgique when she returned to her native Belgium as her modeling career was set to take off. This woman goes from a soccer fan on vacation to a model by a stoke of luck. Sounds too good to be true, right?

Right. Only a day after signing the deal of a lifetime, L’Oreal terminated Despiegelaere’s contract when an image of her hunting animals emerged on Twitter. Many flocked to Twitter to express their disgust with L’Oreal’s newest model and soon after she was fired. The Independent reports that L’Oreal was aware of the image and didn't say if it was the reason for the termination.

“The spokesperson said that, although the brand was aware of the photograph, it would not comment on whether this was behind the decision to terminate Ms Despiegelaere's contract. However, they were keen to stress that L'Oréal "no longer tests on animals, anywhere in the world, and does not delegate this task to others.”

Welcome to the world where viral images and the internet can instantly open doors for you, but can close them just as fast.
