The Dallas Mavericks have signed Rockets restricted free agent Chandler Parsons to a three-year offer sheet that is worth more than $45 million.
It is unclear what the Rockets plan to do, but they have three days to match the Mavericks offer for Parson or they let him leave for Dallas. Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reports that the Rockets are uncertain what to do with the Parsons’ offer and have been in contact with the agents of Trevor Ariza, Luol Deng and Paul Pierce.
Parsons thrived in his role as a shooter for the Rockets and found success being the third option next to Dwight Howard and James Harden. The Mavericks will likely use Parsons in a much bigger role as they look to recruit players to the cause. Houston elected to decline Parsons’ fourth-year option and let him become a restricted free agent so they would have to match any deal he would receive. The Rockets have expressed interest in retaining Parsons, but his price tag could be too rich for Houston at this point.
Parsons averaged career highs with his 16.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game, but saw a drop in both his field-goal and three-point percentages. The Cleveland Cavaliers had expressed interest in signing Parsons as their “plan B” if they couldn’t sign LeBron James.
