The Cleveland Cavaliers, Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics have completed a three team trade that will send Jarrett Jack to Brooklyn and Tyler Zeller to Boston.
The Celtics receive a future first round pick from the Cavaliers and Marcus Thornton from the Nets in addition to Zeller while the Nets added Sergey Karasev.
This deal is a winner for all parties involved, at the moment, as they all receive the assets they have wanted for weeks. The Nets have been in talks with the Cavaliers for weeks concerning Jack, the Celtics add a coveted draft pick and Cleveland shed loads of salary cap so they can add a max contract.
The Cavaliers have to be very optimistic with their chances to land LeBron James if they are willing to trade so many assets away. Cleveland now has the means to add a max contract player and you have to believe they are LeBron-or-bust at this point. According to ESPN's Tom Penn, the trade frees up $9.5 million in salary for the Cavaliers (Jack, $6.3 million; Zeller, $1.7 million; Karasev, $1.5 million), giving Cleveland $21.7 million in cap space.
The trade can end up being great or terrible for the Cavaliers depending on James' decsion, but, on paper, the Celtics and Nets got better and added pieces to the puzzle.
