Tiger Woods hasn't won a major tournament since the 2008 U.S. Open and has struggled to return to form due to injuries and personal issues. Woods’ former swing coach, Hank Haney, believes it is simply because Woods "doesn’t care as much as he used to."

Tiger Endorsed by Controversial Company?

Haney spoke to The Scotsman’s John Huggan about everything Tiger, including what he thinks is going on in Woods’ head. Woods opted to play in the Quicken Loans National, but turned down invitations to both the The Greenbrier Classic and Scottish Open. Many believed it would benefit Woods to enter another tournament before the British Open on July 17-20.

“That he isn’t going to play competitively in the two weeks running up to the Open speaks to the fact that he doesn’t care as much as he used to,” Haney said . “Still, you can’t win if you don’t enter. Maybe he will catch lightning in a bottle. But I really think he is using the Open to get ready for the PGA at Valhalla next month. That’s a much more realistic target for him.”

It wasn't all negative from Haney as he was very supportive of the way Tiger played his game before injuries took their toll on the 14-time major champion. Haney called Woods’ performance at the 2006 Open Championship “far and away the best ball-striking tournament he ever had.”

Woods will attempt to claim his 15th major championship at the 143rd Open Championship, while moving one step closer to Jack Nicklaus’ record 18 major titles.
