The Philadelphia Flyers' main goal of this offseason has been to trade Vincent Lecavalier at all costs, but two failed trades later, the center is still a Flyer. The latest team to lead trade talks with Philadelphia is the Ottawa Senators, who have interest in Lecavaliers’ services.
The Senators are an ideal fit for Lecavalier as they are currently about $18 million under the salary cap with 22 players on the roster. The issue facing any potential deal between the Flyers and Senators is the $4.5 million cap hit and $2 million 2015 signing bonus that Lecavalier’s contract demands.
This issue with Lecavalier’s contract is the exact problem that hindered the Flyers’ potential trade with the Nashville Predators only days ago. The Predators were willing to take on Lecavalier’s signing bonus but requested that Philadelphia retain some of his salary to which the Flyers declined.
Lecavalier was a huge disappointment in his first season with the Flyers as he only managed 37 points in 69 games, with a minus-16 rating. Lecavalier was drawn to the Flyers due to Peter Laviolette’s focus on offense as opposed to new head coach Craig Berube’s more laid-back style of play.
Lecavalier to OTT? Sens want Flyers 2 pick up salary and want something else for taking him off their hands ... #vinnysagacontinues

When Flyers signed Lecavalier, an exec told me he'd be first player to be bought out twice. If Flyers dump him, pretty close. — Nick Cotsonika (@cotsonika) July 3, 2014
