In their attempt to convince Carmelo Anthony to sign in Houston, the Rockets may have disrespected one of their own. As part of their pitch to land Anthony, the Rockets decided to show off a pictures of Carmelo in a Rockets No. 7 jersey that is currently worn by Jeremy Lin.
While it is believed that Lin would be moved this offseason to create salary cap space, Lin feels himself disrespected by the franchise. Lin posted a Bible verse to his Twitter page that reflected his current feeling toward the team.
Luke 6:29 - If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them
— Jeremy Lin (@JLin7) July 2, 2014
The Rockets used the same pitch on Anthony that they did when the franchise pursued Dwight Howard. The Rockets hosted Carmelo at the Toyota Center and were joined by Howard and guard James Harden, owner Les Alexander, general manager Daryl Morey, coach Kevin McHale and Hall of Famer Clyde Drexler.
Even if the Rockets strike out with Carmelo, Lin is expected to be traded this offseason to clear the cap space. Houston would love to add a max contract player, but even if they fail the added space from Lin would be much appreciated. Carmelo's next stop on his free agency tour is a visit to the Lakers in Los Angeles on Thursday.
