Lance Stephenson and the Indiana Pacers might be heading for a divorce after recent contract talks have broken down. Reports out of Stephenson’s camp are that the Pacers will not budge on their offer and the shooting guard is seeking more money.
The Pacers have offered Stephenson a five-year, $44 million contract, but the four-year veteran believes he is worth much more on the open market.
"Lance and his representatives aren't sure they're going to be able to reach an agreement with the Pacers," a source said. "It's clear they want him back and he wanted to go back, but they may not be able to come to terms.”
Stephenson had a career season for the Pacers last season as he averaged 13.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game. If Stephenson chooses to test free agency he has his options, as he has drawn interest from the Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers and Charlotte Hornets.
Although he believes he is worth more money, Stephenson will not go to the team that offers the most as he is also seeking a team that will be in contention. Stephenson has spent his entire four-year career with the Pacers and his breakout 2013-14’ season came at the perfect time as he is now looking to cash in with the right franchise.
