Disgraced former Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling plans to argue that the findings of one of the doctors entrusted with gauging his mental capacity was compromised because the doctor once socialized with him and his estranged wife.

According to ESPNLosAngeles.com, attorneys for Sterling allege that immediately after the examination, the doctor, Sterling and Shelly Sterling went out together for dinner and drinks. Lawyers for Sterling further contend "it was unclear at what point a medical examination ceased and a social interaction began, with the consumption of alcoholic beverages taking place."

Donald Sterling banned for life

Both Sterling and his longtime wife are due in court for a four-day trial beginning July 7 where the NBA's one-time longest tenured owner will argue Shelly Sterling did not have the authority to recently sell the Clippers to tech guru Steve Ballmer for $2 billion.

The NBA banned Sterling for life and urged him to sell his team earlier this year after a former girlfriend released a video of him admonishing her "not to bring black people to my games," including NBA legend Magic Johnson.

ESPN reported a key part of Sterling's legal strategy is to have the pending sale of the team to Ballmer voided will revolve around the contention that Dr. Meril S. Platzer findings were compromised by her social interaction with the Sterlings.

According to ESPN, Sterling submitted to CT and PET scans at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles on May 16 and neurological examinations May 19 and 22. The website notes on the same day Sterling submitted to the second neurological examination at his house, he sent a letter to the NBA informing it he'd consented to give his wife the authority to negotiate a sale of the team.
