Carmelo Anthony's Brooklyn-born wife would prefer it if her free agent husband decided to re-sign with Phil Jackson and the New York Knicks, according to the New York Post.

Even as the league's No. 2 overall scorer was beginning his free-agent tour in Chicago, The Post reported that La La "is very happy in New York and is opposed" to him bolting the Knicks.

Anthony officially became a free agent on Tuesday and besides the Bulls is also expected to spend his week meeting with the Rockets, Mavericks and the Lakers.

"There's reason to believe he's staying,'' a source described as with ties to Anthony's inner circle told the newspaper. "There's just too much money out there. He's doing to the right things, though. He's got to make the rounds.''

During his visit with the Bulls, the 30-year-old Anthony is expected to meet with coach Tom Thibodeau and All-Star center Joakim Noah, who reportedly has been recruiting the Knicks star forward since February's All-Star game.

Carmelo won't wait on Knicks

"What we're selling is our team and so I'm sure free agents are well aware of our team and the guys that we do have and they'll research and our players will be available to talk," said Thibodeau. "We think we have a lot to offer, we think we have great depth, we have great tradition and we're positioned well to go forward.

The Post reported the Knicks can offer Anthony a max salary of $22.5 million, while the Bulls would be hard pressed to get anywhere near that figure without trading emerging, young forward Taj Gibson.

"Everywhere I'm hearing is Melo still is a lot about the money,'' a source told The Post. "That's why people think he'll end up in New York."
