With the Jason Kidd era on the verge of coming to a close in Brooklyn, native son Mark Jackson has emerged as a potential candidate to replace him as Nets head coach.

According to ESPN, "Jackson has come up internally as a potential candidate to replace Kidd if he indeed leaves the Nets."

Mark Jackson fired, Steph Curry angry

Word of Kidd's rumored departure surfaced over the weekend after several media outlets reported the first year coach's recent play for more power within the Nets' organization was soundly denied by management. The 41-year-old Kidd reportedly directly approached owner Mikhail Prokhorov about adding the role of president of basketball operations to his job description.

After being rebuffed, Kidd was given permission to speak with other organizations about available opportunities and immediately began talks with the Milwaukee Bucks, where is now rumored to be in ongoing talks about taking over as president of basketball operations for that underachieving franchise that just landed Jabari Parker in the NBA draft.

Kidd's potential departure might mean Jackson's second NBA coaching opportunity. Despite leading the Golden State Warriors to 51 wins last season and a berth in the Western Conference playoffs, Jackson was fired after the season with management simply stating they felt it was best the franchise go in a different direction.

ESPN added former Memphis Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins is also viewed as "a very serious candidate" in Brooklyn, with one source adding "in a lot of ways he makes the most sense. He represents stability, and stability is very important right now. He rules with an iron fist and gets a lot out of his players, so he'd be very high on the list right now."
