If Dirk Nowitzki has his way Carmelo Anthony will be walking into the Dallas Mavericks locker room right behind Tyson Chandler.

One day after the Mavs traded to bring Chandler back to Dallas, Nowitzki told the New York Post he definitely plans to reach out to free agent Anthony in hopes of convincing him to join the pair in Dallas.

Carmelo Anthony won't wait on Knicks

The 30-year-old Anthony officially becomes a free agent on July 1 and has already indicated he plans to meet with the Mavs, Bulls and Rockets as he makes his decision whether to rejoin Phil Jackson in New york or moving on to what he deems greener pastures.

"I was active the last couple of years recruiting, but it didn't do anything,'' Nowitzki told The Post. "I was active with Deron Williams, but he stayed in Brooklyn. I flew to LA last year to meet with Dwight Howard, but he went to Houston. I guess they don't like me much."

Could Carmelo Anthony join Miami Heat?

Nowitzki is hoping his luck will change with the league's No. 2 overall scorer behind league MVP Kevin Durant. "For sure, if Dallas is on his radar, we'll talk," he said. "He's one of the best scorers in this league. He can score with the best of them. If that's where he wants to be, we'd love to have him.''

Nowitzki will also be a free agent this summer, but it's almost a foregone conclusion he will continue on in the only NBA city he has ever known.

"I don't want to go anywhere,'' he said. "Hopefully it will be a short, quick meeting, get it over with and get better as a franchise. I've been in Dallas so long it wouldn't feel right leaving.''
