The Boston Celtics would consider trading star guard Rajon Rondo if they're unable to acquire power forward Kevin Love from the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Boston Herald is reporting that this is an option should the Celtics come up short in the Kevin Love Sweepstakes now that the Golden State Warriors are serious in acquiring the double-double machine, even if it means parting ways with promising guard Klay Thompson.

The Herald adds that the Celtics are also open to trading away forward Jeff Green, should there be any takers.

Rondo, 28, can become an unrestricted free agent next summer. The Celtics are in rebuilding mode and he could simply walk away from the franchise next year if the Celts continue to lose. So GM Danny Ainge could pull the trigger on a Rajon Rondo trade especially if they don't get the services of Love. Rondo can still command a couple of first round picks and even a young prospect especially if he can regain the form that made him one of the league's best guards next season.

Still, the belief around the Celtics organization is that they can still pry Love away from Minnesota with their trade offer of the number 6 and 17 picks in this year's draft alongside center Kelly Olynyk and another future number 1 pick. The Celtics also own two more first round picks from the Brooklyn Nets and another from the LA Clippers after this season, giving the franchise a lot of assets to give up in exchange for Love.
