The Houston Texans agreed to make nine-time Pro Bowl safety Ed Reed the newest member of their defense Friday. Reed signed a three-year, $15 million contract a week after he originally left town without reaching an agreement.

"From the first day of free agency, Rick called me and I think we both knew, just from the conversation, how things were going and how this would work," Reed told ESPN. "It just was a matter of time with getting it done."

2013 will mark the first season in the all pro safety's 11-year career in which he is not a member of the Baltimore Ravens. The defending champions continue their disappointing offseason in which they have lost yet another key player to their super bowl winning roster.

Following the retirement announcements of linebacker Ray Lewis and center Matt Birk, Baltimore began the first week of free agency by trading wide receiver Anquan Boldin to the 49ers. The Ravens would then see linebackers Paul Kruger and Dannell Ellerbe, cornerback Cary Williams and safety Bernard Pollard all sign with other teams.
