The Denver Broncos have scheduled visits with free-agent pass rushers Dwight Freeney and John Abraham, NFL sources told ESPN. However, the meetings may be an attempt by the Broncos to apply pressure on Elvis Dumervil, who was offered a contract Tuesday after his resconstructed contract agreement fell through Friday.

Broncos' executive vice president of football operations John Elway acknowledged that the team submitted a contract proposal to Dumervil but declined to provide details. Denver could be preparing to replace Dumervil if the defesinve end decides to look elsewhere.

Freeney, who was a long-time teammate of Peyton Manning's in Indianapolis, is scheduled to fly to Denver on Wednesday night, according to league sources. The 33-year old has 107.5 sacks over an 11-year career, but has seen a decline in productivity over the past three seasons.

Abraham, 34, recorded 10 sacks last season with the Atlanta Falcons. The veteran defensive end has 122 career sackins in 13 seasons with Atlanta and the New York Jets.

Dumervil had 11 sacks last season and was second on the team behind Von Miller. In 2009, Dumervil led the league with 17 sacks prior to signing a six-year, $61.5 million contract in 2010, which the Broncos attempted to restructure last week. Both sides agreed, however, Dumervil's agent failed to fax in the agreement to the league office before the 4:00 p.m. ET deadline
