Oft-injured WWE Superstar Rey Mysterio's contract was renewed for one more year despite the pact not having an option to be renewed, and a legal procedure could follow between the WWE Superstar and the company.

WWE Takes Shot At CM Punk On Facebook

It had been previously reported that WWE CEO and Chairman Vince McMahon renewed Mysterio's deal with the company for one more year despite the fact that there was no option period for another year on his deal.

The reason McMahon was able to do it was because the WWE has the ability to freeze contracts if a Superstar is injured, and given how much time Mysterio missed, McMahon froze the deal. There was a feeling within the WWE that Mysterio missed so much time in the ring that he actually owes the organization some time, thus McMahon renewed the contract.

The Undertaker Unlikely To Return At WrestleMania 31

According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, Mysterio was looking to leave the WWE when his contract expired last month but McMahon renewed it for another year, seemingly against Mysterio's will.

The reports indicate that there is more to this contract problem than meets the eye, and there may even be a legal situation that has yet to play out. There is no word on whether Mysterio is fighting the WWE on it and is looking to take legal action to get out of the contract, or if it is something else.

Given Mysterio's reported desire to be done with the WWE, it is possible that he is taking legal action to avoid having to return to active competition.

Mysterio, who is dealing with a hand injury, is still listed on the WWE's injury list and there has been no talk about when -- if at all -- Mysterio will return to the company.
