Knicks: Kenyon Martin Signed For Remainder Of The Season

The New York Knicks have signed veteran forward Kenyon Martin for the remainder of the season, the team announced Friday. Martin was signed to his second consecutive 10-day contract with the team this season.

The veteran forward played in six games for the Knicks this season, averaging 5.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and nearly 1.0 block in 19 minutes. The 35-year-old made his first start of the season on Thursday against the Portland Trail Blazers as the Knicks dealt with Carmelo Anthony and Tyson Chandler's leg injuries.

Martin scored a season-high 12 points in the 105-90 loss to Portland. However, he also suffered a knee bone contusion and his playing status for Sunday's matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers is uncertain.

Even if Anthony and Chandler return on schedule, Martin still gives the Knicks a good scoring and rebounding option in the absence of Amar'e Stoudemire. When healthy, Stoudemire provided a strong punch inside for the Knicks before suffering another injury.
